The Gainesville & Alachua County Transportation Planning Organization (GACTPO), previously called the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO), is updating its current Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for fiscal years 24-26 while developing a draft version for fiscal years 26-28.

Approval for the organizational rebrand occurred during the February 2, 2026 board meeting.

The UPWP serves as a federally mandated planning document that "outlines transportation planning priorities and activities within the metropolitan planning area." This program details planned initiatives, responsible entities, implementation timelines, expenses, and funding sources across a two-year span. The Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, and Florida Department of Transportation all require this program.

For GACTPO to maintain eligibility for state and federal transportation funding supporting regional programs and infrastructure improvements, the organization must adopt and execute the UPWP. The revision process adheres to guidelines from Florida's Metropolitan Planning Organization Handbook.

Before the GACTPO board considers proposed modifications to the existing program and the upcoming two-year draft, these items will receive review from GACTPO's advisory committees.

Public participation is welcome at all meetings, and community members are invited to attend and contribute feedback.
